During most recent times, the window cleaning industry has seen a significant change with the introduction of the Reach & Wash Pole System. This method allows upper floor windows to be cleaned externally without the use of ladders.
Purified water is pumped through long reach poles to a brush head applied to the glass to facilitate the cleaning. Although the glass is left to dry naturally, it dries free of smears as there are no impurities remaining.
We have invested in the reach & wash system and would normally use this method where it is practical to do so.
There are two main advantages to using the reach & wash system -
Safety being a beneficial factor in that this method does not require the use of ladders thus preventing falls and other injuries associated with ladders.
In the past all too often injuries and fatalities have been the result of falls from ladders which determined that window cleaning was the most hazardous occupation.
Ease of Access being the other beneficial factor to using the Reach & Wash System, a reach and wash pole can access windows which had previously been inaccessible, e.g windows above canopies and conservatories.
Most window cleaning tasks involve the use of traditional window cleaning methods and the recently introduced "reach and wash" method.
Generally, ground floor externall windows and all internall windows are cleaned using "traditional window cleaning" methods which involves the use of detergent water, applicator and squeegee. Windows that are above arms reach are accessed using a special tapered window cleaning ladder or steps.
For cleaning the externall of windows above ground floor level,we would generally use the "reach & wash" method for reasons of safety. However on occasions the reach & wash method may not be suitable. For example where painted window frames are in bad condition, residue from the deteriorated framwork drips onto the glass after cleaning which would then recontaminate the glass giving a dirty appearance.
If the reach & wash was not suitable for the task then the traditional method would be applied using long ladders or other access equipment.
We have many years of experience using traditional window cleaning methods with ladders so be assured that the widows will be cleaned in a safe manner.
Health & Safety legislation advises that ladders can be used if the task takes less than 15 minutes to complete and that at all times there must be 3 point body contact with the ladder.
